South Wellington OPP Reports - July 26, 2017

UNLOCKED VEHICLES ENTERED OVERNIGHT IN ROCKWOOD

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received numerous calls about vehicles being entered July 24, 2017 overnight in Rockwood, Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

In all cases the vehicles were unlocked. Owners of the vehicles report their wallets containing cash and identification being stolen. Addresses include Christine Street, Queen Street and Dennis Street.

The LOCK IT OR LOSE IT campaign is a crime prevention program that reminds the public to lock their vehicles and to remove the valuables and keys from within. This helps reduce the motivation and likely hood of property crimes of these types.

Police are looking for anyone with any information regarding this or any other criminal activity to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. SERIOUS COLLISION ON COUNTY ROAD 32

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) - On July 22, 2017 approximately 3:25 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department responded to a two vehicle collision on County 32, south of Speedvale, Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

Initial investigation indicates that a southbound grey Hyundai Sedan crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit head on with a black Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported by land ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of the Hyundai and the driver of the pickup truck were also transported by land ambulance but with minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by Wellington County OPP. County 32 is closed between Speedvale and County 31 but will reopen shortly.

The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision to please call 1-888-310-1122.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN ROCKWOOD

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) - On July 20, 2017 at approximately 8:12 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with fire crews from Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 243 Main Street South in Rockwood.

The address is a site of a historic property. The house on the property was not damaged. A structure on the property that was originally a stable but had been turned into a pool house was on fire. The pool house was fully engulfed. There was no one home at the time and there were no injuries.

A witness reports seeing two males break into the gate at the property and approximately 20 minutes later the witness observed flames and called the fire department. This fire is being treated as suspicious.

On the evening of July 21, 2017 the property was returned to the custody of the home owner; however by the following morning, July 22, further mischiefs had occurred to the property. Unknown suspects had trespassed on to the property and caused damage.

Later that afternoon at approximately 2:00 p.m., on July 22, 2017 surveillance cameras caught two people trespassing on the property. The OPP have spoken two males. They are not suspects at this time and their age prevents the release of their names.

OPP are asking anyone who may have seen these two males in the area to please call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
